My boyfriend, Jay and I have been dating for about four years. We have what we call a ''long distance" relationship. Jay lives and works in Brooklyn, and I live and work in upper Westchester. We knew we wanted to move in together and take the next step in our relationship, the only question was, where? We wanted to find a place that was a reasonable commute for both of us, someplace that offered good schools, good restaurants and safe neighborhoods.

Jay's sister actually lived in New Rochelle when completing her Master's Degree at The College of New Rochelle. Jay had been to visit her numerous times, and he remembered liking the area very much. Being that I grew up in Westchester County, I was familiar with the location and actually have a few friends who grew up in New Rochelle. After hearing all of the positive memories and comments we knew that we had to take a look!

We began our process of house hunting in August of 2009. The first day out to look at houses, our agent, Mary Ann Giacobbe gave us a tour of New Rochelle, and the different neighborhoods. We immediately fell in love with the area. Jay liked the fact that it was a convenient commute for him with the Hutchinson Parkway nearby, and I liked the fact of being close to the water. We also considered neighboring areas such as Mammaroneck, White Plains, and Larchmont to name a few. We just did like the homes that we saw in those areas, but we could get more for our money, and had more possibilities in New Rochelle.

About 8 months later we found a house! It was a long process, but we are very happy with our house. The location couldn't be better, in the middle of a great neighborhood, not to far from downtown New Rochelle. We are close to the parkways and great shopping and entertainment.
